The inevitable tragedy.
As always, and this is worth re-iterating, all of you who read Voidchild... are the best!

Far from it I'm afraid... Though the exclamation is well appreciated by my author self. =)

We'll see if that's where it goes. But those happy days are now, regardless, definitely over.

Haha, maybe it's that thing you've said once before in a comment? That I'm a monster. ;)

Definetly, there's a certain schism to his final words, isn't there?

Yes, definetly. Let's just hope the author doesn't linger on the tragedy to try and emphasise the nightmare. ;)

I hate being right, and the death of Mary's father by her own (accidental) hand makes me so right it hurts. :'(

Attentive reading is what probably made you see this coming. I've been telegraphing and (trying) to hint at this since the start of the series. But you are definitely right in that you are witnessing a major turning point in Mary's life and her character. I want it to come across as not too binary though, but that's what the next chapter is for. Where we will close the book on this origin chapter.

That's right, against her father's wishes, she let that very human side of her get the better of her. He wouldn't scold her for it though, not in those final moments...
