Silent scream in today's Voidchild. Uhm, and come back Wednesday for more bummer pages maybe... =x

The kind of of grief that sets you off completely. And perhaps even changes you as a person. The next part of this chapter is the final one in the origin chapter and will focus on this and Mary's transition into adulthood and towards Victoria.

Haha, well let's hope those last two pages aren't bummers then! ;)

Well, that depends on whether or not I intend to make a big deal out of this I guess. ;)

Raheem shouldn't have gotten so close while she was still in a life-or-death struggle with Earfeathers (who looks moderately dead--hopefully).
I'm still not completely clear as to just when she delivered the killing strike to Raheem, or how Earfeathers wound up so far away, but it's pretty obvious that Mary was reacting by reflex at that point.
Pretty powerful stuff, here, both scripting and art. Kudos!

Well, I don't want to put my thoughts too much into my lovely reader's minds. I like people interpreting the character's actions, they why's and why not's, for themselves. But with that said, putting myself in his shoes, seeing what you know as a little Snowflake being literally and figuratively torn apart, there might have been irrational fatherly reasons behind his actions.
I can pinpoint the moment when Mary landed the killing blow though. Between panels 1-3 of page 18. I worked with all those close-ups on that page to try and obscure what was actually happening, in hopes of leaving the next page with additional impact. At first, I had the idea that I was going to hide Raheem's fate throughout the comic, but came to the conclusion that that "surprise" might not have as much impact as when you can see the disaster ahead of time. So I opted to sprinkle the comic with clues instead.
Oh, and as for why earfeathers is lying a bit away from them. That's just a compositional choice. I wanted Mary and Raheem in the centre and he kind of stole focus from them when he was closer. So I opted to push a bit of logic aside in favour of composition. :)
Finally, thanks so much for your praise. I'm getting a lot of powerful response to this scene around where I post Voidchild. But for me personally, and as powerful as people find this scene, consider the next chapter which contains the aftermath and he transition back to the present as, if not more, important to the story. None of that's drawn up yet, all in script form. But I'm really looking forward to showing you what happens from here on. ^_^
EDIT: wow that turned into a longer reply than I intended. I get too worked up when someone invites me to talk about my work. :D

That's rather what I thought, but there seemed to be rather a lot of words coming from a man with a ruptured lung. I suppose what I was really wondering is whether he actually said most of them before she hit him, or whether she hallucinated some of them.
Also, when I read P18, my first thought was that Earfeathers was meddling with Mary's mind, in an effort to make her think that he was Raheem so she'd stop ripping his mask/face off.
It probably sound like boasting, but I'm not that easy to confuse--so, kudos, again. :)
Oh, and long answers don't bother me a bit. ^^

Oh, in reality a person wouldn't be able to speak with someone's arm through their chest for sure. Another leap of logic in favor of trying to make things dramatic. ^_^
Confusion can be a good thing, but it can also mean that I've portrayed things confusingly. I always appreciate any honest feedback. Because all that helps me hone my work and this comic and deliver the best possible story I can. That was Always the goal. ^_^

Like with this panel, there's nothing I can say to do the pain and sorrow here justice :(

And somehow, in a way, you did and I appreciate that very much.
