Not even a breeze, in today's Voidchild.

There will be an extra (and extra fun) update of Voidchild this Friday that I am both excited and nervous about.

Gnnn... please look forward to it! ^_^

She was somewhat ~motivated~ the night she tapped into her powers. Maybe she needs to find a purpose and it'll come back to her.

That really is the one million dollar question here, isn't it. We'll find out soon!

This would go with Delta-V's earlier comment about Mary just being numbed, which doesn't leave one with much ability to function, much less use elemental powers.

Man, all readers seem to be thinking along the right lines. There's definetly something "vacuous" about Mary's current state. And sometimes that hinders our other functions. In this case, it seems to have affected her extranornal abilities.

When Mary was releasing her power in the forest before the attack on Kynthale, she was also venting frustration. During the battle, she took out her fury on the attackers. If, as it seems to be, that her ability to channel the power is based on emotions--especially negative ones--it's no wonder that in her current emotionless state she can't touch the energy.

It is possible that using that much power burned out her emotions--all of them, so she fees no love for Raheem, no gratitude toward Imad, no anger toward the townsfolk. Emotions, that's what's missing.

You know what I like? Attentive reading! ^_^ you've clearly been connecting the dots. And we can safely assume that there is a connection between Mary's abilities and her emotional state, or the lack thereof. These are all facets to be cognizant of as the story progresses and we delve deeper into who Mary was, is and will become in the future. I'm hesitant to say too much, but both this and the next chapter will tackle different aspects of this development. ^_^

She almost look like a zombie. The traumatizing experience back then caused an emotional shutdown?

It looks like. No one would come out of the other end of a night like that intact.
