Can't stay long and a a luke-warm declaration of intent, in today's Voidchild.

EDIT: As some of my helpful readers pointed out, the day I posted this was Father's Day in the US. It was not my intent to time this page to this day. I hope it comes across, as intended, that while this scene is tragic and somber is very much a celebration of the father-child bond!

She's gotta find out who she is, and where those powers came from!!

e: this part of the comic is conveniently on the same day as Father's Day in America, thought I might point that out

Perhaps that's why.

Yes, someone pointed this out for me on another site where I posted it! I'm going to make an edit to my original post to accommodate for that. I was completely unaware!

Really been feeling for Mary here, knowing her pain all-too-well... :'(

I'm sorry to hear that, I really don't envy anyone going through what my protagonist is going through.

A lot we can read into the expression on Imad's face as he listens to Mary's "eulogy", given the extremely painful and emotionally complex way Raheem died...well done.

Thanks, this was another very important scene for me to get right. It is the final scene of the flashback after all! ^_^

A Christian cross for a grave marker? Interesting.

I didn't find her soliloquy luke-warm. Awkward and a bit inarticulate, yes, but I thought it sincere.

The whole page is impressive, but I found the Panel 3 close-up of the hand and the flowers to be exceptional. :)

Well, two reasons for the cross. One is that Christianity is a predominant religion in Kenya. A heritage left behind from colonial times. I chose Kenya as Mary's place of origin, in part, because of it's relation to Great Britain where most of the story takes place. The second reason is that it's a well-known symbol to be used for graves. And without getting into a larger discussion of it, I personally find a certain beauty to its and this aesthetic.

About the luke-warm comment... Full disclosure here, I kinda messed up and posted an alternate version of the dialogue. I've fixed this now but didn't notice until afterwards. And there are very minor changes/fixes. In this, the version I meant to post, Mary says "So I guess I'm going to London" rather than "So I'm going to London". There's meant to be a bit of resignation and reluctance to this decision of hers. Hence my comment about her being sort of "luke-warm" about her intent. =P

And thanks! You're always very kind to point these things out. And we've been through the whole "draw hands"-dilemma before. =D

A cross is also simple to construct--more so than some other symbols.

I didn't feel much difference in the corrected dialog. I guess after those pages of emotional dead air, anything even slightly positive feels pretty animated to me. ^^

And the "draw hands" discussion is the reason I highlighted the panel. ^^

Hah, yes, the cross is a simpler construction. Both for both the artist and the one setting up the grave. ;)
