On the plus side, he might have done something to deserve it. Generally don't think he'd get a whole page's real estate of swept away if he weren't somewhat important to the plot

Good thinking! It is England after all and CCTV! However, I just totally did not make up a canonical explanation in that they vanished along with him. ^_^
