...couldn't have taken the label off first? Or moved the evidence to a different box?
To that end, why not destroy the evidence? Why go through all the trouble of storing it?

Good questions! Now I don't know Movian personally and I'd rather maintain a healthy distance... but if I were to speculate, the evidence went missing overnight. So it was probably picked up in a rush. Hence the simple cardboard box and label still attached. Possibly in transit to an actual evidence room at the Serious Crimes Unit?
And this Movian fella strikes me as a meticulous guy, he probably wants to inspect the stuff himself to see what they got (so far, we know and can glean pieces of "Jack" and is that maybe Roy's journal)? I'm confident he's gonna destroy it after he's had a chance to inspect it for himself. Such a dastardly careful man...
Also, in all seriousness. There were two things I wanted to make came across in this scene: That Movian's people are within the police force and that they secured the evidence from further investigation from the police. At least in regards to the crimes involving the child sacrifices. There's still one more major crime possibly (or possibly not?) connected to this whole mess.

Some legitimate trade I'm sure! But what better way to get your hands on occultish and supenatural stuff? Ehm, as well as that incriminating big box labelled evidence I suppose.
Stay tuned for next week when Movian offers a big sack with a dollar sign on it for Abe to go away! ;)
