If that thing was made of metal, you could call her a "trouble magnet"!

=x

It's a big ol' surprise is what it is! Well, for the moment. You'll find out very shortly what it is. ^_^

Lol, as much as I'd love to depict that it's not exactly what's going on here. :D

Perhaps a bit more exploration is called for? Say, just enough to blast whoever made that attack into oblivion?

'Tis the old conundrum; "At what point in learning does too little knowledge become too much?" :)

I'm sure it was just an accident. No one's ever come after her before after all! ^_^

And while it's fun to just draw action, I don't want to do action just for the sake of itself. There's a point to this encounter and what's gonna happen now that sort of rhymes with the saying you presented. ^_^

While Mary's train of thought may be interrupted, it just occurred to me (with no sudden falling objects to distract me); do the majority of characters in this story have British accents of some form? Victoria is a fictional place that seems to be inspired by England, so that would make sense; as for Mary, though she was raised in Kenya, English by way of British colonization is fairly common there (as opposed to the Yankee English dialect I speak)

Yes, you are spot on! While Victoria is a fictional city that's loosely inspired by a number of other cities and places in England (sprinkled with a bit of "what who" of supernatural character) it is England. And as such, most people speak British English (or dialects of other regions of Grear Britain).

Mary herself is no exception, though she does have that Kenyan flavour to her accent. Since, as you pointed out, it's an old British colony that left is lingual mark on the area. It's one, but not the only, reason why I chose Kenya as her pace of origin.
