There's something a bit odd here. The Monster (Demon? Eldritch Horror?) could quite easily have grabbed him and killed him if such was it's plan. There would have been no need to chase him or pull down walls.

Unless it has a cat-like desire to play with its prey, it's almost as if the thing wants to talk, and realizes that Abe would quite rightly wish to be elsewhere if it should try to do so.

Most curious.

Such a good question and observation! Not saying whether you're correct or not but I figure with all sentient things you'd have to ask yourself what drives them. Motives can, and usually are, at odds though. Otherwise us regular peeps wouldn't be more complex than an iPad. Inquisitiveness is a trait I think most us living things share though. You're quite right though in that this thing could've probably caught up with Abe by now. But I wouldn't give him a get out of Tranquil House-free card just yet!
